Sponge (cellular) rubber is extruded as a profile and cured so it stays soft and compresses under light load. Closed-cell sponge resists water and air. Open-cell is softer but lets more air and moisture through.

Common uses are door and hatch seals, gap fillers, cushioning strips, weather-stripping, and vibration or sound dampening in appliances, HVAC equipment and vehicles.

Material choice: EPDM is the usual pick for outdoor weather and ozone resistance. Silicone suits wide temperature ranges. Neoprene (CR) handles oil and flame requirements better than EPDM. Tell us the temperature, fluid exposure and how far the seal must compress. Also ask about compression set and density, and whether you want a skinned surface, which seals better and wipes clean.
